Did you ever hear about homophones ? as we know homophones can bring confusion for students or can be a teacher and lecturer. It is important for us especially as a students to mastery about this material.
Homophones is a words that have similar sound, but it has different spelling and meaning, such as bear and bare it have similar in pronounciation but different in spelling as well as the meaning.

Homophones divided into 4 types, which is homograph, homonyms, heterographs, and oronyms.

1.      Homograph is a word that have similar in spelling but different in meaning
e.g hail and hail, one hail means ice storm and the second means something that occurs in large number (eg a hail of bullets)
2.      Homonyms is a word that have the same pronounciation but it has different meanings.
e.g Cite, Site and Site.
3.      Heterographs is a word that have different spelling but the pronounce is same.
e.g write and Right
4.      Oronyms is a word that have multiple words or phrases, having similar sounds.
e.g Ice cream and I scream.
Examples : did you like the meet ?
                  Did you like the meat ?
Note : it must be remembered that words like these are different morphemess

But did you know what is the function of homophones ?

The purpose of using homophones is to create effect by using words that have two or more meanings, it means that homophones are use extensively in poetry and prose to make rhytmic effect and to put emphasis on something.

And the purpose for us as a student of english education program is to know the word that sound alike but differ in meaning because as we know that it always bring confusion for us thats why it is important for us to mastery about homophones.
